I recently watched this film the other day (writing this in October 2025), I knew I'd be intrigued by the way it was set and shot. After it ended I was filled with a gut wrenching feeling that only a woman would know. Linda Lovelace was an actress that starred in a pornographic film in the early 1970s. With only two and a half weeks in the industry, the film ‘Deepthroat” changed the course of American porn to what we see today. This was the first time I'd ever heard her name. The 2013 film follows the life of Linda, played by Amanda Seyfried, we get a glimpse into what her home was like and the harsh ‘tough love’ that she was given. And we see how she was ‘saved’ by a charming prince who came and let her free of her chains. Only that wasn't necessarily the case, freedom always comes with a cost. Deepthroat was the first adult film that had been shown across mainstream audiences, the money it brought in was unbelievable to see - partly because she never saw any of it. This film follows a young woman who falls in love with a man she thought would help her. Only to later be coerced into an abusive relationship / industry that she fought hard against after getting the bravery to leave.
